The Modleos, like any self-respecting Mexican beer, were ice cold and fair in price. We were quickly seated near the bar and ordered the classic Modelos while we waited for our appetizers. We stopped into Pika Pika around 7:30 and the restaurant was relatively busy for a Monday night. Seven adults and a three yr old with drinks and appetizers and dinner, $200 not including tip.Ĭan there be good Mexican in Puerto Rico? Yes. It actually improved in flavor over the next several days. We did not try dessert that night however we have had take out tres leche cake from the restaurant which was very good. Nobody felt the food was spectacular but then again we were not expecting much for a Mexican restaurant in very small town Puerto Rico. Other dishes that were prepared were good. It came with steamed vegetables and a side of Spanish rice. I ordered the beef dish called Nuevo Leon, which was essentially a thin cut beef wrapped around sausage and plantains cooked and served sliced with a nice brown sauce. At this point we were one of the last patrons in the restaurant and it was 8:30 PM.

Sausages cooked in wine was interesting, but I would probably not order it again. The nacho dish and jalapeno poppers were basic, nothing extraordinary. Appetizer orders came next and those took an additional 20 minutes to arrive. They took our drink orders promptly however the actual drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive. It was a Monday night and the place was 3/4 empty. Seven adults and one baby and a 3-year-old were seated in a large table at the back. The restaurant is located a little bit of a walk off the beach perhaps 10 minutes. This is one of the few restaurants remains open. On Monday nights in Boqueron, most of the restaurants are closed.
